Coronation Street fans have hailed some of the show’s latest scenes as a ‘two minute movie’ as they were left emotional over Carla Connor’s ‘realisation’ after her recent hostage situation.

Fans were horrified at the start of the week when Carla was woken from her recovery after undergoing a kidney transplant by prison officer Mandy. As viewers were already aware, her brother Rob Donovan was plotting his prison escape following the op, with Mandy’s help as they were revealed to be in a relationship.

She sprung into action after Rob woke from the transplant op and was paid a visit by DS Lisa Swain who confirmed she would not go ahead with their deal, to get his murder conviction overturned, despite given Rob ‘insurance’ in the form of an audio recording confirming her plans.

Furious with Lisa, Rob set about executing another plan which saw prison officer and Rob’s secret partner Mandy sneak into Carla’s hospital room, put her in a wheelchair and said she’d use her gun if Carla didn’t comply with her demands.

Mandy put Carla in another room and said they’d wait for Rob, who was seen in Lisa’s car after stealing another officer’s clothes and sneaking out of the hospital himself. He ended up attacking Lisa as he realised she was attempting to make a phone call.

Rob eventually made it to the room where Mandy and Carla were waiting. He was shocked to find out about Mandy’s pregnancy and realising she had been used, she left. Rob attempted to follow suit. But Carla found the energy to push her brother down the stairs and a weakened Rob as a result of his surgery saw him fall over the balcony, with Lisa finding him at the bottom.

During Tuesday night’s (February 18) next Corrie instalment, Lisa confirmed Rob as dead when she couldn’t find a pulse. With Carla dangerously ill, Lisa wanted to get her to the hospital and when DC Kit Green arrived and wanted to go and secure the scene of Rob’s death, Lisa insisted that he take her and Carla to hospital instead.

With Kit now busy taking Carla back to the hospital, the other police officers arrived at the abandoned office block they found that Rob wasn’t quite as dead as Lisa had thought. And they were too late as the murderer had taken her car and was on the run.

But it was emotional scenes between Carla and Lisa that fans felt that Carla finally believed in her relationship with the detective sergeant.

@TVMusings22 said: “Of course the best thing about this episode is Carla finally realising Lisa is all in, she will stop pushing her away now. She was crying with relief and love. Swarla really are corrie’s power couple. A whole 2 minute scene for them was like a movie!!’ Well done #corrie.”

@LanaKlaineSWEN wrote: “Carla asking Lisa to basically be her forever has me crying so hard at 7am this morning! They love each other so much #Swarla #Corrie.” @TheConnorSwains posted: “Carla literally just asked Lisa to stay with her FOREVER… I’m gonna need 8-10 business days to process this scene! #Swarla #Corrie.”

@swarlaconnor added: “I knew Carla would understand Lisa’s actions! There is no way she could be mad at this pretty little blond detective, she’s her person #corrie #swarla #lisaswain #carlaconnor #dsswain.”
