Rylan Clark has been showered with plenty of love after he commented on appearing in a new role. The TV and radio presenter recently revealed his appearance in the Channel 4 show, Big Boys.
The sitcom, created and written by Jack Rooke, stars Dylan Llewellyn and Jon Pointing as first-year university students who live together, set from 2013, told from the point of view of Dylan’s character Jack—a semi-fictionalised version of Jack, who narrates the series—as he recovers from his father’s death and explores his sexuality for the first time.
Earlier this month, the third and final season started and has featured a cameo from Rylan. Asked about getting the BBC Radio 2 star involved, Jack told NME: “He was so lovely about the show on Celebrity Gogglebox and I remember thinking he would be a real dream person to have. I think he encapsulates everything about Big Boys – those elements of class, sexuality and being unashamed.
“When I wrote that scene, I was giggling. Can we [really] get Rylan to say ‘anal’ six times? But Rylan is a comedy actor, through and through. I gave him [the script] and asked, ‘what do you think’? And he just went, ‘yes’. Working with him, his performance, his choices, he put in loads of effort. He’s an immensely thoughtful person. I would genuinely love to write for him again.”
Now, Rylan has taking to Instagram to acknowledge his appearance in the sitcom and gushed of the show’s creator. Alongside pictures from his time on the set, the 36-year-old wrote on Instagram: “Being asked by my lovely @jackdaverooke to be a part of Big Boys was an instant yes.
“Not only is he one of my faves, but what he’s managed to create in this show is something really special. Without sounding proper gushy, as hilarious as the show is it’s also proper important. It’s my story growing up, and so many other LGBTQ+ peoples experience too around my age.”
He went on: “The heart, the warmth and the sadness that Jack and all the fantastic actors managed to portray on screen really was done to perfection. I know in years to come the next gen will watch this back and love it, just like we do when we watch things like gimme gimme gimme and Ab Fab. It’s up there, and deserves to be. Who realised when I used your lap as a chair when I couldn’t find somewhere to sit at mighty hoopla that here we’d be.”
Rylan rounded off by saying to his million of followers: “Thank you Jack for making me a small part of something so special to you, and so special to a whole community out there. Love you mate x.”
Loose Women star Ruth was quick to respond to the post, writing: “I’m SO thrilled to see this!!! Bloody love this show, bloody love YOU!” Actress Daisy May Cooper also gushed: “This brings me so much JOY.” Drag peformer Danny Beard shared: “You where soooo good in Big Boys!!! Was crying laughing.”
